12 Days of Christmas Ornament Countdown – Day 10

This special crane is the newest ornament on our tree. My brother brought his friend, Phoebe, home with him for Christmas this year, and she’s teaching us how to make these beautiful cranes, out of origami paper. I think it’s important to always add new ornaments to the tree, and new traditions to your holiday schedule, often. It keeps the holiday from becoming stagnant and reminds you that other people celebrate holidays, around the world, in different ways. One of my most enjoyable Christmases was when my parents took my brother, and I, to France, Switzerland, and Spain for Christmas. Presents were not a priority, the chocolate and treats were the most delicious I had ever tasted, and the new traditions we experienced will stay in my memory forever.

Holiday Light Traditions

Do you enjoy the lights that people put up during the Holidays? It’s been a tradition for us to drive around, and look at the biggest light displays, every year, since I was a little girl. There was a really big display in Saint John, where I grew up, called Murphyville. It was located on the side of a steep hill and was covered in different buildings all lit up. It was beautiful and people would come for miles around to see it every year! Unfortunately, the family was not able to take care of it any more, and it came to an end in 2012.

One of my favourite streets to see the lights on every year, in Halifax, in Connaught Road. There are at least two big houses that put on an amazing display, every year, which benefits a local charity. [Read more…]

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I love traditions, especially Christmas traditions. We have a lot of them in our family that have been passed down through the generations. We do a lot of baking! Our two favourite Christmas Recipes are Cherry Cake Cookies and Candy Cane Bread.

My mother made us amazing homemade stockings which we have been using since I was little. We always open one present on Christmas Eve and we have many beautiful ornaments that hang on our Christmas tree, year after year.

We also have a cousins Christmas party where the children do a gift exchange and a craft or decorate cookies/cupcakes.
