Lately our house is a mess. It’s summer; the kids are staying up late every night, we’ve been on vacation, and everyone is completely off-schedule. Getting ready for back-to-school takes so much time out of our lives at this time of year: shopping for clothes, shopping for lunches and snacks, shopping for school supplies! It never ends!
And it always seems harder to get kids back into healthy eating after the summer when they have been able to basically eat what they want and have snacks all the time. How parents are supposed to get everything back on schedule for school and get their kids to actually follow healthy routines is beyond me!
Nothing makes me more excited for the school year than finding a new tool that helps make my life easier. It’s like getting to go to Starbucks for your coffee or pressing the easy button at Staples! Boom! Momma just made life easier.
TIP 1 – Get Back on A Schedule
The most important tip I can give any parent to help make sure they don’t lose their sanity at back-to-school time is this: get your kids back on a reasonable bedtime and don’t do it at the last minute. It takes time to change a sleep schedule, so get your teens so go to bed a little earlier every night for a week before school starts. We all know how teens need their sleep and no one wants to miss the bus on the first day of school!
TIP 2 – Always Have Healthy Snacks Available
We’ve all heard the cliché that teens have hollow legs. They definitely need more food with all the growth spurts they take. I’ve already noticed that my food bill has been getting bigger and bigger every year. I also have a hard time getting my teens to eat healthy food or even take a lunch to school. My tip is to have lots of healthy snacks and treats ready to grab on the go. If it’s easy for them to grab, they’re more likely to take something healthy to school. My favourite healthy snack choices are cheese strings, fruit bars and granola bars with vegetables in them.
TIP 3 – Use an Electric Toothbrush
One of the healthy habits we have always had a hard time getting our teens to do is brush their teeth. It’s always been a struggle but it’s even more difficult now that they’re teens, snacking at night, staying over at friends’ houses and going to bed on their own. I don’t get to monitor their bedtime routine any more…nope, instead I get locked out of the bathroom! This is why I love the Philips Sonicare 2 Plaque Control Rechargeable Toothbrush. My two teens and I tested it out and it’s amazing. If I listen closely, I can tell they’re actually brushing their teeth THROUGH the closed door because of the soft noise of the sonic vibrations of the toothbrush. Yay for no more nagging! This toothbrush leaves your teeth feeling amazing. The sonic technology actually pushes water in between your teeth and gums to get those hidden areas clean. The Sonicare electric toothbrush removes 6 times as much plaque as a regular toothbrush and the new head gets at those back teeth easier. Thank goodness, because I don’t have any more time in my schedule for another dentist appointment!
Philips Sonicare uses dynamic cleaning action and patented sonic technology to gently and effectively reach deep between teeth for a superior clean you can see and feel. Switch to Sonicare 2 Series and remove 6X more plaque than a manual toothbrush.
