You may not realize it but our relationships are held together with food! Do you remember the time your mom taught you to make pie for Christmas dinner? How about the kitchen party at someone’s house in university? How many potluck dinners have you been to in your life with family, friends, church or groups? What happens at almost every get together people have? We #EatTogether of course!
All of the meals I have shared with friends and family absolutely fill my heart with joy.
They’re the memories that stand out the most!
It’s not easy to know what makes or breaks a good relationship, but I think it’s fair to say that food plays a huge part in bringing us together and that having a meal with family and friends can make your life so much happier! We are all spending way too much time on our electronics these days, obesity is at an all time high, from not paying attention to what and when we eat, and it’s SO INCREDIBLY EASY to just let our teenagers stay on their electronics and take their food to their rooms or the basement.
Parents are exhausted!!
But making an effort to eat together and re-connect is the BEST THING you can do. When people eat together they talk about what’s going on in their lives, they share good food that makes them happy and they form stronger bonds. The more time we spend apart and alone, the more unhappy and unsatisfied with life we’re going to be. I’m no parenting expert but I know how important it is to stay involved in our children’s lives in order to know what’s going on with them!
I think a lot of people are realizing that we have a problem with how we’re living our lives. They are starting to make changes to their daily habits, minimizing the clutter in their houses, spending more time outdoors and making an effort to re-connect with their family and friends. For too long Canadians have been drifting apart and I think we need to come back together! I live in a wonderful neighbourhood where our community gets together for potlucks and BBQ’s at least once a year. It’s not always easy to get people out to these events but it’s so very nice when it happens. It makes me so happy to get to know the people living around me and to let them know I am here for them if they ever need anything. To belong to a family, community or other group makes us feel as if we matter and we belong.

We’re on a mission to get Canadians to #EatTogether. Because so much good happens when we do. #Canada150 pic.twitter.com/deGap2Fob6

The world does need love right now. So let’s all try and put down those cell phones, #EatTogether more often and spread some joy!
