Have you ever wondered what it is like to have Alzheimer’s Disease? Well, I can’t really tell you, because I don’t have it. I would love to know what it really feels like (and at the same time I don’t want to know). My mother has Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease, and I’ve been wanting to share with the world what I see. So I decided to write it in a poem.
This is Alzheimer’s
Medications morning and night.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Not knowing where you are or why you’re there.
This is Alzheimer’s.
A camera hidden in a towel.
This is Alzheimer’s.
The possibility of Seizures.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Getting lost in familiar spots.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Not wanting to talk on the phone, because it’s too difficult.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Not being able to find the words you want.
This is Alzheimer’s.
A fork and other treasures in my pocket.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Frustration and Anger. Slamming doors.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Everything is so funny!
This is Alzheimer’s.
Closing doors over and over again.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Remembering you are surrounded by people you love, but for only a moment.
This is Alzheimer’s.
No medication that works, and no cure.
This is Alzheimer’s.
Please help us find a cure.

Thank you Laura! It’s a tough journey but it helps to talk about it. I know many others are going through similar situations.
