I’m learning a lot of life lessons due to my mother having Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. This weekend she really let me have it.
My mother hates noise. Big crowds and people talking loudly upset her quickly these days. She will start to pace, sometimes swear and if you’re really not settling down she’ll tell you to stop. This weekend I was getting too loud with my father (we’re both very loud talkers when we get together) and I was making a joke of some sort where I made a mad face. My mother happened to be passing by at that very moment. She took one look at me, pointed her finger at me, and said “JUST SETTLE DOWN!”
For about 10 seconds I felt like I was five years old again and my mother was my mother. It was amazing, and it was HILARIOUS. For the next couple of minutes I couldn’t stop laughing.
It was a good moment. It’s better to be happy and have your memories, than be sad.
XO
