Last week I was invited to tour the NovaScotian Crystal factory in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Did you know that they are North America’s ONLY hand-cut, mouth-blown, crystal company? I didn’t and I was blown away by the skill and process it takes to make one of their unique pieces of crystal art.
The Nova Scotia factory was established a generation ago, when Irish immigrants wanted to preserve the ancient tradition of crystal making. Their cutters have developed unique patterns which represent our location and history. Every piece is unique because it is hand cut!
During the tour I was able to see the incredible process the artists go through to make each unique piece:
My favourite design is the Titanic. It’s beautiful and I really love the new beer glasses! All of the designs are beautiful and created with Nova Scotia in mind like the sailboat award shown below.
These unique pieces of art would make a wonderful gift for anyone and are a treasure to pass down to future generations!

Gorgeous! A few years ago during City Harvest (or Open City) I went and saw so many amazing behind the scenes things. The fact that the crystal is cut – by eyeing it and incredible skill – is astonishing! So many gorgeous pieces.
We were so fortunate to wander through the back see the processes and then enter the store. It’s the kind of place where you could close your eyes, spin around, then randomly point, and find a treasure to love.

They are all treasures. We are so fortunate to have this old world art form in our city.
