It’s no secret that our family loves to travel, but, we have discovered that you don’t need to go far to feel the excitement of travelling. You can get that feeling from a short trip or even just going to the airport to pick someone else up. We love airports about as much as we love flying somewhere. We also love taking a stay-cation, where we can get away to a nice hotel and relax without going far from home. This made me think…what if we put the two together and went on a stay-cation to an airport hotel? Sound good? How about the newest airport hotel in Halifax!  We decided to stay a night at the new ALT Hotel Halifax Stanfield, at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, just for fun.

My family and I visited the new LEGOLAND®  Discovery Center Toronto in Vaughan Mills, Ontario, on our recent road trip to Toronto. Our two children, ages 9 and 11, had never been to a LEGOLAND before and our family loves LEGO! We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

We just returned from an amazing trip to Ontario and one of our favourite parts of the trip was our visit to Niagara Falls. I hadn’t been to Niagara Falls since I was a child, and it was my children’s first time. We were so amazed! The beauty of the Falls is unbelievable! We started out at the Table Rock Welcome Centre, where we could park for the day.

Welcome to the Great Canadian Blog Bash! I’m so proud to be Canadian! My name is Laura and My Life in the Sun is a personal blog I started last year to share our family’s experiences during our everyday life and traveling. This is my first year in the Great Canadian Blog Bash because it’s my first year as a blogger. I have two daughters and a very patient husband who, like me, love to travel. I am born and raised in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada and have driven across the country twice. I think one of the best ways to see Canada is by car! There is much more to a country than just the big cities. There are so many amazing small boutiques, manufacturers, farms, and restaurants in small towns that you would never get to see, if you didn’t get out on the road. Read More →

My girls and I got a great idea from my cousin to make a Summer Fun List (a bucket list but I didn’t really want to call it that) of things to do this summer. Have you ever done this? We have had ideas before, but never made a checklist that we can follow, over the summer and hopefully finish. There are some big items on the list this summer, since we’re headed to Toronto in 3 days! We’re pretty excited. What do you think? What would be on your list?

Planning a road trip now that warmer weather is here? Just driving to Grandma’s house? You’re going to want to keep those kiddies occupied and happy if you want to have a peaceful, enjoyable trip. When we plan a road trip we always bring movies, video games and books but here’s what else I did on our last road trip to make it more fun for our children. This would work great for flights too!

I planned ahead of time and started buying small children’s toys, games and treats when I saw them on sale. I bought things at the Dollar Store, Michael’s Craft Store, on Ebay and even at Thrift Stores to keep it affordable.

I love living in Nova Scotia. There is so much to do here for families and so much history. Here’s my list of the top 25 places for families to go in Nova Scotia, in no particular order, and some comments on our favourites. Hopefully these ideas will inspire you to go to at least one new place in Nova Scotia this summer with your family or take at least one road trip!

The most interesting person I have met, on my travels, was William from Iqaluit. We met in 1996, when I skipped my high school graduation to go sailing in Ireland, with a youth program; Atlantic Challenge. 29 youth from all over Canada met for the first time, on my birthday, in Ontario and then travelled to Schull, Ireland to live and train for a month in close quarters. The town was tiny and you quickly became familiar with the locals; no one more than Will.
