It’s no secret that our family loves to travel, but, we have discovered that you don’t need to go far to feel the excitement of travelling. You can get that feeling from a short trip or even just going to the airport to pick someone else up. We love airports about as much as we love flying somewhere. We also love taking a stay-cation, where we can get away to a nice hotel and relax without going far from home. This made me think…what if we put the two together and went on a stay-cation to an airport hotel? Sound good? How about the newest airport hotel in Halifax!  We decided to stay a night at the new ALT Hotel Halifax Stanfield, at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, just for fun.

My family and I visited the new LEGOLAND®  Discovery Center Toronto in Vaughan Mills, Ontario, on our recent road trip to Toronto. Our two children, ages 9 and 11, had never been to a LEGOLAND before and our family loves LEGO! We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

We just returned from an amazing trip to Ontario and one of our favourite parts of the trip was our visit to Niagara Falls. I hadn’t been to Niagara Falls since I was a child, and it was my children’s first time. We were so amazed! The beauty of the Falls is unbelievable! We started out at the Table Rock Welcome Centre, where we could park for the day.

My girls and I got a great idea from my cousin to make a Summer Fun List (a bucket list but I didn’t really want to call it that) of things to do this summer. Have you ever done this? We have had ideas before, but never made a checklist that we can follow, over the summer and hopefully finish. There are some big items on the list this summer, since we’re headed to Toronto in 3 days! We’re pretty excited. What do you think? What would be on your list?

Planning a road trip now that warmer weather is here? Just driving to Grandma’s house? You’re going to want to keep those kiddies occupied and happy if you want to have a peaceful, enjoyable trip. When we plan a road trip we always bring movies, video games and books but here’s what else I did on our last road trip to make it more fun for our children. This would work great for flights too!

I planned ahead of time and started buying small children’s toys, games and treats when I saw them on sale. I bought things at the Dollar Store, Michael’s Craft Store, on Ebay and even at Thrift Stores to keep it affordable.

I love avocados, but until recently, I really didn’t know what to do with them. I only used them in guacamole, or sandwiches, and never considered that I could bake with them. The avocado, or “lizard fruit”, is actually a fruit, and blooms year round in Mexico, the only place in the world! I found out, there are so many ways you can use an avocado, and much more about them on the Miss Avacado, Avocados from Mexico, website.

Did you know that the first avocados were grown 9000 years ago, in Mexico, and that approximately half of todays avocado production still comes from Mexico? Did you also know that avocados contain more than 20 vitamins and minerals, and more potassium than a banana? They also are a fantastic source of “good fats”, which help lower cholesterol. When I heard this I knew I wanted our family to start eating more avocados. But how would I do that, and would my family like it?! I decided to try to cook something completely new with avocado’s, the Raspberry Avocado Semifreddo!

We love competing in our annual family gingerbread house competition. When we started most of us were just using the store-bought house building kits but since then things have gotten a little out of hand. Last year’s winner was the Titanic!

After last year we knew we had to step up our game if we were going to win. My children came up with the idea to build the Eiffel Tower. It looked amazing! Read More →
