“Would you like to swing on a star? Or carry moon beams home in a jar?” Early 20th century pop music was really fun for a kid to hear and sing along to. Granted, some songs, like nursery rhymes, and some folk songs, were a little darker as they were created during war or disease as a way to cope with the difficult times. Most of the songs are just plain fun and based on every day life and play.
I have to thank my aunt Joni for reminding me of how much I love early popular and folk songs recently. My grandfather, Ron, loved to sing. Everywhere I went with him he was singing, especially on road trips! What great memories I have of those times!
Some of his favourite songs were:
Swinging on a Star
The Thing
Bicycle Built for Two
