Today we’re Spring Cleaning our house! Yes, I know that sounds crazy – it’s still the middle of Winter right!? Yes, you’re totally right, and I probably have gone crazy, absolutely bonkers and completely round the bend, as they say in Alice in Wonderland. It’s probably because of all the snow days we’ve had this week, or the amount of shovelling I’ve had to do. Or maybe I’m just begging Spring to come faster and I hope by Spring cleaning it will happen?
Whatever the reason, I started sweeping today and then found out I just couldn’t stop. If I think about it actually, it all started earlier in the week, when my daughters and I decided to wash the walls in the house. I just couldn’t handle the sticky corners any more!
Today we cleaned out our bedrooms of junk and garbage, I organized the paper work for income tax time, I decided to put a few things up on Kijiji that I haven’t used in a few years, and we started a blue bag of clothes, to give away. I have a book pile to give away too but I have a much harder time giving away books than anything else. I love all books: decorating, poetry, fiction, historical, children’s. I have a really hard time giving them away – unless they are a fiction book that was really badly written. I have no problem giving those away!
My big Spring cleaning goal this year, is to create a less cluttered living space for our family. I want to be able to easily sweep and mop the floor, without a lot of things getting in the way. I want to live a simpler life without a lot of “things” in my way. Our lifestyle has always been more about experiencing life, than accumulating “things” and it takes a lot of cleaning each Spring to maintain the wonderful feeling of walking in the door to a neat and tidy house. Children seem to accumulate things so quickly don’t they!?
Do you have Spring cleaning goals yet or is it way too soon for you?

I did the same today! The kids know by now that this time of year we need to make room. If it hasn’t been worn or used in the past 6 months it needs a new home. I am dropping off some games and winter stuff to a family that really needs it tomorrow. It feels good to declutter, doesn’t it??? Very therapeutic. Enjoy your clean house. I am enjoying mine with a good brew!
