I had a lot of fun at the Halifax Seaport Port of Wines Festival this summer. It has renewed my love of wine and I can’t wait to go back next year. I am not a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like. These two wines are two of the best I’ve tried in years!
A while ago I fell in love with moscato sparkling white wine. I tried a lot of them at the Seaport Wine Festival but fell in love with a Spanish Moscato: Mia. I found it sweet (but not too sweet), sparkly and perfect for celebrating Christmas or New Years! I certainly can’t get enough of it and I don’t need a special occasion to enjoy it!
Gloria Collell, the winemaker, says the wine is inspired by the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona, Spain. This makes me love it even more.
My second choice from the festival is a red: Les Jamelles Selection Speciale GSM.
Vinified and partly barrel-aged by the French winemaker Catherine Delaunay, this Sélection Spéciale comes from old Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre vines cultivated in the southern French Languedoc.
I just realized that I chose two wines by female winemakers! How cool is that?
I’m normally not a big fan of reds, but this wine was so smooth and full of flavour! It has blackberry notes and no bitter aftertaste like I normally get with red wine.
