Parents in Halifax are gearing up for another March Break and that means day camps, taking the week off of work and bored teens lounging around the house! I have to admit March Break is much less stressful for me now that my kids don’t need daycare but it’s still going to be a week full of bored texts, driving them around town and extra food disappearing from my fridge!
I always like to have a few ideas to throw at my teens that might keep them occupied for a few hours and away from the TV and let me tell you they LOVE Downtown Halifax.
There’s so much to do downtown and don’t let your teens tell you they’re too old for some of it!
The Discovery Centre
1215 Lower Water Street
$40.00 for family of 4
$12 adult
$10 child (kids 2 and under are free)

Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market
1209 Marginal Road
Next up was lunch at the Seaport Market. We’ve been taking the girls there for years and our absolute favourite treat is always the pork sticky buns! They’re also heavy into kombucha lately so we got some black lavender sage and green mint chamomile from Goodmore Kombucha, made right here in HRM! It was delicious!

We could have browsed for hours in the market listening to the musicians and sampling goodies but we pushed on to Pier 21 right next door.
Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21
1215 Lower Water Street
$30.00 for family of 5 (2 Adults/3 kids) Ask for the CAA discount if you’re a member!
$12.00 for Adults
$8 Youth (children 5 and under are free)

Any teens interested in doing family research can also map their family tree and uncover their own family history by asking to see the Scotiabank Family History Centre.
Some other cool spots teens will love in Downtown Halifax are the Boardroom Cafe, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Public Library (where they can actually book a music studio and record themselves playing an instrument or singing), shopping for candy at Freak Lunchbox and checking out the cool Black Market Boutique.
If you have younger kids and you’re looking for things to do in Halifax check out this fantastic post by Britanie of Raising Little Sparks blog who did a kids crawl for March Break in Downtown Halifax!

We have gone to the discovery center once before on school trip but never went as a family outing. Never been to pier 21 because I wasn’t sure that kids would understand the experience, but from your blog it looks like they would learn from the role playing. Thanks for the great suggestions to make a trip to the city with a 9 & 10 yr old more educational then movies an go karts!
Moveis and go carts are always fun for sure but yes I do think they would love the Discovery Center, Pier 21 and also the Maritime Museum! It has great exhibits for kids!
Thanks for the suggestion, they would love the Maritime Museum!
We have visited several of the places listed in the contest, but it’s been awhile especially since we have been to Pier 21. I’d love to take my daughter there. And show her the doors her Great Grandfather came through when he came home from WWII
Great suggestions! It’s alwsys hard to find activities for teens, so this definitely helps. Thanks!
We have been to the Discovery Center and the Halifax Seaport market. Have not been to Pier 21 and would love to get to the Gallery.
Thank you for the opportunity.
We LOVE the Discovery Center and cannot wait to visit some of your other recommended locations!
