If you love to travel with your family stay tuned! Every Friday I’m going to post a new travel tip. I’ll share tops for staying sane on a road trip, what to pack, how to plan and budget for your vacation and ways to help you recover after you get back home!
Family Travel Tip#1
Upgrade Your Car Rental. It’s as simple as that. When our kids were small we used to rent small vehicles on our vacations to save money. I have no idea how we fit all the luggage, strollers, food and kids into those cars. Then one day we decided to upgrade to a minivan. It didn’t cost much more per week and we’ve never looked back. (In fact we now own the van we rented because we loved it so much) You don’t have to rent a mini van, but definitely search for rental deals online before you go. Most car rental companies have coupons on their websites for free upgrades and if you use a search engine like Expedia you can often choose a larger vehicle for the same price you would normally pay for a small car from a cheaper company. Having the extra space to haul all the fun vacation gear, rent surfboards, bring a cooler and divide the kids up is totally worth the extra cost of renting. Just watch out for car rental companies that aren’t in terminal at your airport. If they’re located off site you’ll have to haul all your gear around on a shuttle to pick up your car. This can be a major pain in the tush!
One more tip! If you’re a Costco member, you could possibly save a LOT by reserving your car through their website depending on the location and dates of your trip.

That’s good advice, I probably wouldn’t have considered it!
