Walt Disney World is as big as a city and there are a multitude of websites and articles to help you explore “The Magical World of Disney”. Below I have shared my own favourite websites to visit, which have helped us plan our trips to Walt Disney World in Florida. Some of the reasons we love traveling to Walt Disney World in Florida is that it’s magical for all ages, the location & ease of travel to and from our home city (only three hours on a direct flight), the cleanliness of the park, and how relaxed and comfortable it makes us feel when we are there. We also love exploring the rest of Florida when we’re not at Walt Disney World so it makes for a nice well-rounded and reasonably affordable vacation.
While it can be expensive to stay on site at a Walt Disney World hotel we find that, if you take advantage of special offers, it can be reasonable and worth every penny to stay on site. It’s more relaxing, you get to spend more time in the parks, you don’t have to pay for parking, you get better service and it’s just plain fun to be immersed in the magic 24/7! Plus it can be very affordable if you are willing to camp at Fort Wilderness or stay in a Value Resort.
Take a look at my Disney Vacation Planning Post for more hints and tips but one of my biggest tips is to start planning early and do your research! If you don’t you may miss out on a lot of fun things like character meals and special discounts such as free dining.

Our Top 5 Hotel Choices on Disney Property
Fort Wilderness Campground and Cabins – The campsites are one of the cheapest ways to stay on site and still get all of the Disney benefits. The cabins are great for families of 4-7 people. You can take a boat or bus to the Magic Kingdom. It’s a moderate resort. There are many fun extras such as a campfire and sing-a-long with Chip and Dale, archery and horseback riding.
Port Orleans Resort – Riverside – This resort has newly renovated Princess Tiana rooms that young princesses will love and is on the lower price range of the moderate resorts. If you can get it, it’s a great deal on the free dining special, because the cost of your room is less but you’re still getting a full dining package free.
Animal Kingdom Lodge – There is nothing quite like waking up and looking out over the safari grounds to see the animals of Animal Kingdom in your backyard. This hotel is more expensive than the rest but if you can afford it a very unique experience.
Wilderness Lodge – This hotel is stunning. You can take a boat or bus to the Magic Kingdom and other monorail resorts are close by. It’s a moderate resort.
Beach Club Resort – This resort features it’s own beach by unlike the Polynesian (which would be our first choice if it wasn’t so expensive) it is reasonably priced. It is a moderate resort and also a good choice if you can get the free dining special.
A few of our favourite restaurants
Cinderella’s Royal Table – a very special meal – expensive – many princesses will stop by your table for autographs and photos – worth every penny at least once in a little girl’s life (see photo of my princess – just look at her face!) We usually use 2 free dining credits to book this restaurant. It’s a fantastic way to get a lot of princess autographs without standing in lines and getting exhausted early in the day.
50’s Prime Time Cafe in Hollywood Studios – The food here is old fashioned and just like you’re mom made. Our favourites are the Fried Chicken and Meatloaf! It is styled in 50’s decor. The waiters are hilarious. You play with hoola hoops outside while you wait for your table to be ready.
The Whispering Wind Cafe – Wilderness Lodge – Very big servings of BBQ meat and the best corn bread ever. You have to yell Ketchup to get your ketchup from other tables. Very fun for younger children especially if they love cowboys/horseback riding.
‘Ohana – Polynesian Resort – We love having the character breakfast brunch here. You usually get to see Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stich, the food is very good and the atmosphere is quieter/more relaxing than some of the other character breakfast spots. (We found Chef Mickey’s really noisy.)
