Like Jennifer, at You Pinspire Me, I normally hate these chain letter type blog posts. I rarely do them when I’m nominated. Then I read Jenn’s post and I was really happy I did. I learned a few new things about my good friend, I didn’t already know, and I though maybe it would be a good idea to share some more personal details about myself, with my readers.
I met Jenn at Blissdom last year. It was an amazing conference and if you haven’t heard of it you should check it out. It’s not just for bloggers and it was a wonderfully empowering experience for me. You should also go check out the You Pinspire Me blog. Jenn and her sister Marya post delicious recipes, crafts, contests and are just wonderfully sweet women who you should follow!
1. What am I working on?
I’m at a really difficult point in my blog right now. I feel like I’m in a transitional phase, where I don’t know what’s coming next, I don’t have time to devote as much time to my blog as I would like and I sometimes feel I’m taking on too many sponsored posts. Between working full-time, school letting out and summer in full swing I haven’t written anything in weeks! Crazy I know.
I love writing about travel the most so I’m always working on a few draft articles about places we’ve been, great attractions for tweens and bucket lists. I’ve also been trying to better myself lately so I ran my first 5K and want to write an article about my experience with learning to run for the first time.
2. How Does My Work Differ from Others of the Genre?
The only thing I can say about this is that my voice is my voice. It’s different from all of the others, because it’s based on my experiences in life. I have two wonderful tween daughter’s, have worked full-time most of my life and have travelled quite a bit with my family. I have my strengths (planning, problem solving, learning) and my weaknesses (trying to be/do everything, perfectionism, worrying too much) and have just learned I love to write. I love meeting new people online, creating a community and supporting others. I love helping moms plan their families vacations and promoting positivity online!
3. How do I Write / Create What I Do?
I write at night, on the couch, sometimes in front of the tv, sometimes alone and sometimes surrounded by family. I really only have my nights and weekends to write so I have to write about what is important to me and be selective in who I work with. So you can be sure if I’ve written a sponsored post, I definitely like the product/experience.
I have to be really organized and I love my google drive and google calendar! I wish I had more time for editing photos but I do my best! I love it when my family gets involved and helps me out with a post. My daughter’s love to proof read and my hubby edits (and takes) a lot of my photos.
4. How Does Your Writing / Creative Process Work?
I usually get my ideas from being online: on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter. I explore the different social media accounts from the cities I’m travelling to before I go so I can learn about new things to try. (Wait until you see us luging down the mountain in Calgary! So cool!) I also write about what is important to me and what is happening around me. If I hear about a social issue that is important to me, then I write about it to spread awareness about the issue. (See I Love Ruby Cup and An Interview with Glenn Canning) I also love to write about my family and baking. There’s no real organization to how the creative process works. I write about what I want to – when I want to. That’s why I love it!
Specifically – I write everything in WordPress. I don’t do drafts in Word or any other program. I use GIMP and FOTOR to edit my photos.
So now to nominate 3 other bloggers who I’d love to learn more about! Please do not feel like you have to do this! I know you’re all busy moms who have lots of other things to do. All of my nominees are from Nova Scotia, like me, because I just love promoting East Coast bloggers!
Colleen, Curtains Are Open
I started following Colleen last year, after being added to a local blogging group. I just love how amazingly creative she is. She’s also makes me laugh. Check out the book she write: Full Speed Ahead!
Heather, Mmm is for Mommy
Heather has been blogging for a lot longer than me and has been a big inspiration to me. (Though she may not know it) She’s super positive and helpful. You should definitely check out her blog for lots of posts on really yummy recipes, travel, contests and more!
Virginia, Fynes Designs
I actually haven’t met Virginia in person yet, but I love her blog. It’s so pretty, and neat & tidy! She does amazing crafts, DIY and sewing projects.
